Digital Painting

"Digital Paintings on the iPad pro using the ipad pro pencil."

These are a few of my digital paintings done with the new iPad pro and pencil. I am having an awesome time working with them. The pencil is very responsive, and the larger iPad is fast and awesome. As you can see the top left is a watercolor. The top right is an acrylic/oil. The lower left is pastel and the lower right is watercolor. These painting are cropped unusually because they are in a photo collage. You can see whole painting on my face book. Look me up on face book.....Lynda Pike, the one with the red hat on.

Digital Photo Art

"Reflections"

This piece of photo art was created in 3 layers. First the window box photo was placed on layer 1. Then I placed another photo that I had already manipulated over the window. I erased everything outside the window area leaving the scene in the window only. I placed another layer under that and placed a third photo of just water that I faded back. Did some hand painting to create the white rough edges to the border.

Acrylic Floral Landscape

"End of Summer"

This painting was inspired by a photo I took in Bourchard Gardens in BC. I love the dark purple foliage and the sun hitting the Cana lily leaves. It was fun to show some depth in the painting by including the distant landscape.

Acrylic Figuratve/Landscape

"Wonder"

This painting was inspired by a sculpture in a Botanical garden. I was taken by the life size figure and the pose. I was also curious about the creation of the scene. Did the pond come first or the sculpture? In any case I had to paint it.

I had to do a lot of simplifying of details. I wanted the background to recede somewhat so I blurred the detail and glazed and muted the color. I only highlighted a few of the closest leaves near the center of interest. The lightest lights were saved for the sculpture. I left the water rather dark and murky creating some mystery as to what she is gazing at.

Today's Painting

Reference Photos

When you are out and about take lots of pictures of everything that catches your eye. Lots of things seem mundane and everyday but can lead to great reference material for paintings. I have been teased about all the photos I take and keep, but it's nice to have lots of great reference material when you get ready to paint.

This painting is from a photo I took of a couple of clown dolls in a collection cabinet in a home I toured on vacation. Never really thought I would paint this, but one day it just fit my mood and here it is a painting.

Kayaking at Natomas...

Kayaking at Natomas

We bought new kayaks to take along on our RV trips. They are so much fun. Nothing better then getting out in nature. Took my old camera along in a waterproof case. The kayaks actually have foot peddles so I have hands free for taking pictures. This painting was inspired by this trip.

Paintings from Trip

More landscapes and paintings inspired by my RV trip across the country
This painting is an impressionistic view of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. This is a very picturesque area. The stone formations in the area are quartzsite a very beautiful pinkish salmon color.

This painting was inspired by a photo I took at the Chattanooga Aquarium in Tennessee. The Penguins were quite active and putting on a good show. The aquarium was one of the best I have seen.

Landscapes from across the U.S.

Acrylic Landscapes

I just got back from a 3 month RV trip across the USA. I had the chance to take many photos so I have a new source of reference photos. I did not have the time to paint on the trip like I was hoping for because we were traveling with other people and we were always on the go. I did start one painting on the trip and finished it at home in my studio. I am now working on more landscapes. Below is the one I started on the trip and under that another one I recently did in my studio.

More Digital Doodles

Digital fun with pattern and texture and negative shape painting.

This doodle was done on the iPad using Procreate app. This is a good way to free up your imagination and practice color theory and composition without wasting precious art supplies.

Digital Landscape

Painting with digital paint and brush can be a great way to do studies and experiment with color. Not only is it good practice you may come up with a winner that could be printed on gallery wrap canvas.

Acrylic Paintings created in Cabo 2015

The following paintings were painted in Cabo. Not on location but in a makeshift studio in my room. I haven't painted in a while so these were my "get back into it studies." I used new supports and new paints from my usual work.

Digital Hibiscus

This is a digital sketch I did of a hibiscus flower. I am doing this as a test post as I am thinking about changing my blog app to a different one.

OK....the new app works great.
