Fall Trees - Acrylic

Fall Trees - Acrylic on Canvas
The season has changed and the leaves are awesome this year. With every time of the day a different tree comes alive with glowing color. Colors I could not resist painting. I had an art studio tour a few weeks ago and thought I should hurry and do a couple of fall trees to display. These are two that I came up with.

River Plein Aire Painting

Plein Air Painting Sailor's Bar, American River

I've been working hard cleaning my studios and getting ready for the
Art Studio Trek Next weekend in Roseville, Rocklin and Granite Bay,
California.  I had to stop and sign and paint the edges of several paintings.
Came across this Plein Aire painting I worked on about 1 hour at the river
That never got finished. Here is the photo I brought home for reference
and below that is my quick block in, done on site.

Today in the studio I lightened the sky and warmed up the hillside and added detail to the berry vines. I decided to calm down the water to make it less busy and give the eye somewhere to rest. Also broke up the shore line across the river with rocks to slow your eye moving across the painting.

Adjustments to Plein Air Painting

Back in the studio I made final adjustments to my Plein Air painting. I changed the value of the sun, highlighted the river and defined some of the brush in the foreground.

Title 42

PLEIN AIR PAINTING

First Plein Air painting in years. Spent about 1 1/2 hours at the Sacramento River while hubby was fishing. I had a great time but am getting to old to sit on the rocks and paint. Really need to use my chair next time.

It was late afternoon to dusk. The sun was low in the sky and just peeking through the dark grey clouds. It was March 2, 2013.

The painting could still use some final highlighting and value tweeking back in my studio. I used a brush and a palette knife to do the painting.

Painting in Cabo

I'm here in Cabo San Lucas. Trying to get some painting done here but every time I get started someone is ready to do something and I have to stop. So I'm not getting on a roll with this painting, working in spurts, but I thought it would be fun to do a work in progress on my blog. So here we go....

Day1

This is a rough start. Have to correct the perspective on the left post. The scene out our bedroom door included a palm tree which I changed to a cactus from the side yard. The scene includes the golf course and distant hills.

I'm painting from life and from my reference photos.

Day 2

Day 3

Stay tuned for future updates to  the painting.
